2015 AKC Eukanuba Canine Breeders Excellence Seminar

December 11, 2015  

As a part of the 2015 AKC Eukanuba National Championship held in Orlando, FL, the Theriogenology Foundation held a Canine Breeder Excellence Seminar on Friday afternoon, December 11, 2015. This seminar was powered by AKC, Royal Canin and the Theriogenology Foundation. Intended to promote continuing learning for the breeders at the event, AKC awarded CE hours to those Breeders of Merit and Bred with H.E.A.R.T. In partnership with the Foundation, the Society for Theriogenology provided four of its members to speak, along with two nutrition specialists from Royal Canin. The topics included:

"Reproductive Nutrition" – Drs. Jill Cline and Rick Kesler, Royal Canin

"The stud is from Mars, the bitch is from Venus: Planning the difficult breeding" -
Dr. Kit Kampschmidt

"How to harvest the data to manage the yield: Using health databases to improve your success” - Dr. Frances Smith

"How to plant the seed and how to harvest the fruit" - Dr. William Schultz

"Navigating the alphabet soup of genetic disease and testing" - Dr. Cindy O’Connor

Round table discussion/Q&A from the audience

Breeder Education Seminar

With topics such as "Advancement in canine reproduction and considerations for the future", "Ways in which nutrition effects pregnancy" and "Kinky shoes and the art of semen collecting", the evening of education and fun for Northeast area breeders got off to a great start. This event was sponsored by Royal Canin, hosted by Slade Veterinary Hospital and was held on October 2, 2013 in Framingham, MA. The sold out crowd of 30 attendees were treated to lectures by Drs. Cynthia O'Connor, Rick Kesler and Anita Migday.
